The Lions Pack: Protein Cookie Dough Review

As obsessed as I am with any protein-infused bar/cookie/powder/etc, I’ve become wary of the smothering amount of novelty protein items being created these days. Cookies, cakes, candies, you name it- it’s been made. Yet for some reason, 90% of them miss the mark in terms of taste, nutrition and macros.

With that being said, I also love cookies and have no self control. When I bake cookies, I truly believe the best part of the entire baking experience is eating the raw cookie dough. When my paired love for both protein and cookie dough decided to pop up on my Instagram feed, I naturally screamed and ordered way too much of it. I’m a sucker like that. Even if I know the chances of it being pure hype are 99%, it was a risk I was willing to take. And let me update you now on how conflicted I am with my decision…

I am obsessed, and I hate it. I love this cookie dough so much that I literally can’t stop myself from eating it. One hack I have discovered: If you pre-roll your dough into the balls of a proper “serving size”, it will be MUCH easier to see your lack of total disregard for nutrition and labels. It will also be a LITTLE bit easier to track and control your portions. I highly recommend this method, because if you don’t, you’ll find yourself hitting the bottom of the jar after one too many “just one more” spoonfuls.

As for flavors, I received: Oreo Cake Batter, Lemon Poppy Seed, Peanut Butter Cup and Cinnamon Roll.

Flavor ratings:

Oreo Cake Batter: 7.5/10

You can’t REALLY mess Oreo up, and the Oreo portion of this flavor is spot on. The bits and pieces are large, and the cream is in tact with the Oreo. The cocoa adds a nice profile to the otherwise neutral dough flavor. As the the cake batter portion- I just couldn’t find anything that make me think “cake.” It didn’t have frosting elements or cake pieces like I was expecting, and the dough wasn’t overly sweet like you think cake would be. It did, however, have some yummy/cute sprinkles in it, so naturally I loved it. The texture from the cookie and sprinkles make this one I would recommend, but not sure if I would be a repeat offender.

Lemon Poppy Seed: 10/10

It’s important to note that I love ANYTHING lemon. It’s also important to note that this flavor has absolutely no flaws. The lemon is perfectly balanced; not too sweet and not too sour. The poppy seeds give this dough an interesting and delightful texture. The overall dough is softer then it’s siblings, and in the best way. I love this flavor. You need to try this. Right now.

Peanut Butter Cup: 7.5/10

This flavor is a very, very natural tasting one. The peanut butter taste does come through, however it’s the dough itself that is flavored peanut-y. I would love LOVED to have some swirls of peanut butter in there, but I can see why it probably wouldn’t be a good idea from a macros perspective. There are what seems like finely milled pieces of peanuts, which also might be why this has such a natural taste. The chocolate is very faint, and is a reason why I didn’t rate this higher. I would have liked to see more chocolate in this dough, but that’s coming from a girl that could eat chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner- so take what you will from that. This flavor is good. Not not-your-socks-off good, but I’d slam a jar no prob.

Cinnamon Roll: 9.5/10

This flavor really, REALLY surprised me. I didn’t have much expectation for this flavor. I don’t get too aroused over cinnamon roll anything, so I figure this would be sub-par. Let me tell you right now: it is anything BUT that. Upon my first bite, I was hit with sugar, spice, and everything nice. Cinnamon, paired with an unexpected raisin, set off a little explosion of amazingness in my mouth. Side note- I LOVE RAISINS. I’m not quite sure if it’s “supposed” to be with cinnamon rolls, but the combination is GENIUS and I loved it. Would definitely recommend and order again. 10 times.
